most power steering makes a whining noise when turning excessive noise could mean low power steering fluid level, have you checked this?

welcome mate, think you will find most vec's make some kind of noise, if its a thud its the knockel joint at the botom of the steering rack (use lock tight on it once you have tightened it up) as we know some one who re-placed it and it did it again 3,ooo miles later, if its a squeel like red lines said cheak your fluid, but then mind dose it and there is nothing wrong (only dose it on slow speed ie 1-mph to-5)
Hope you will join us at the 888 meet in may?

Welcome bud sounds like low fluid also this is a sealed unit so if fluid has gone down suspect a leak on the pipe thats at the bottom of the power steering resivior. This is a common problem on vectras as there is a jubilee clip on the pipe and tends to bite into the rubber and cause a leak.

Thanks Michaelgeorge, I Got Back From Blackpool Yesterday To Discover Steering Fluid Dripping Out Of The Steering Rack Its Raining At Mo. But I'll Have A Look In A Bit And See If It Is The Jubilee Clip Sounds As Tho. That Might Be It . Cheers Bud...

Check the bolt and banjo thats at the back of the engine that goes onto the steering rack (power steering pipe) this becomes loose on the 2.2 due to the engine movement happened on my girlfriends car.All you need to do is tighten it up to the correct torque 28NM .
